Solid Title, But A Few Kinks...

I’ve had this game for nearly a year and usually had no complaints—there’s no goatees or full beards for your grandpa, but I can usually make that work. The gameplay is solid and intuitive, allowing you to watch how your grandpa scores and ask him for help—but thankfully it also allows you to skip that if you’re in a rush and Grandpa’s got a 14-point-hand. In short, this game does a great job of teaching you Cribbage. However, I did notice a major glitch recently—you cannot win when placing down cards at the beginning. I was one point away from victory, with one card in my hand. Grandpa played a nine, and lo and behold that was my card! I played it, my score moved to 121, and then nothing happened! I tapped on Grandpa, and he simply told me to select a card from my now-empty hand. I’d appreciate it if this was fixed.

Beautifully simple.

Clean intriguing and endlessly replay-able. CwG is a perfect way to add some mental gymnastics to your mindless phone scroll. I picked up this game a few years ago after spending a long time looking for a good cribbage sim. I just reinstalled it after getting a new phone and I had forgotten how brilliantly this game is put together. I recommend leaving the difficulty right in the middle for a true luck of the draw play. My favorite thing about CwG is that you can put it down mid hand and come back any time. Grandpa will just be snoozing peacefully, waiting for you to play your cards.

Would give more stars, game broken on iPhone 11 Pro Max

I think this game is fun and creative, and I’ve played it a lot, but the game scoring is broken on iPhone 11 Pro Max. The cribbage scoring surrounds the play screen as normal but as the tokens advance they do not stay on the score track and cut into the game. The fame wasn’t meant to be played on the bigger iPhone screen. Once addressed, I’d probably give this game 4/5 stars, with one star missing because the “randomness” of the game isn’t quite random, with the grandpas getting lucky cards too often at critical moments to be truly random. Otherwise this is a fun and creative game. I created a stubborn angry grandpa that’s a sore loser who beats me more than I beat him, and I love to hate on him!

Perfect cribbage game

My experience with this app is that it is very stable, I've never encountered a bug. It is flexible in the difficulty that you would like, and the amount of customization options are numerous. You also get to pick on some personality sliders as well which gives a nice personal touch. On a personal note my grandpa died about 4 years ago and something that he loved doing with me was playing cribbage. So I went in and made my grandpa so now every time I want to be reminded of the games we played I open up this app and see my grandpa sitting across from me. He looks almost exactly like my real grandpa it's very sweet.

An All Around Great Game

I love the level of customization you can put into each different Grandpa in order to make the game as challenging as you like. The fact that you can create a Grandpa that can look as close to a real person as you can get is by far my favorite part of the game. Now I can play cards with the Grandpa I never knew and whoop the uncle I see just a few times during the year. This is a fun way to learn Cribbage or hone your skills. I like that you can get hints during scoring when needed and learn the ins and outs of the game at the same time. A welcome addition to my iPhone for sure.

Frustrating game play. If you play cribbage with real people do not play this game!

The game play is abhorrent. The developers should’ve paid as much attention to the play as they did to the aesthetics. In no human game of cribbage have I ever witnessed such skewed game play. I just watched my opponent, through three full games, get only one hand under 10 points, while I had more than a dozen hands dealt with no more than 4 possible points. During play my opponent will, during one hand, play brilliantly, always having the pair or the third of a kind. Then, on the next hand they will inexplicably lay down a 5 to start, all while having multiple other, less dangerous, options available. It’s frustrating playing against what is so obviously a poorly constructed algorithm. Get it together. Let’s also mention the issue with runs during the play. There has never been a case where the opponent has not had a answer to a run card. Literally never. If I start the play and lay down a two, he then lays down a three, and then if I lay down a four, he will always have a three or five. What’s worse is that this continues. If I then lay down an appropriate card to continue the run, he will, without fail, respond with the appropriate run card. He never cannot match the run. It only ends when either I cannot complete the run or we approach 31. I could go on, but Jesus. Just fix it.

Rigged

The game is fun, but it’s worth mentioning that the game scales difficulty not by improving the decision making capabilities of the AI, but instead does so by just throwing great hands at grandpa, one after the other. If you want to play on any difficulty besides the easiest one, it will give grandpa 12-16 point hands every single time, while throwing you hands that you’ll be lucky to get 6 points out of. Grandpa will also have every card necessary to complete every fifteen, pair, run, or 31 during pegging without fail. This is incredibly lazy on the game developer’s part, and it shows the quality of their work, which is even more witnessed by the fact that the game was last updated over two years ago.

Solid and Charming

I was looking for a good cribbage app to keep my skills sharp. I am usually a cheapskate, but thought this one looked different enough to pay a few dollars for. I’m really glad I did. You can create multiple grandpas, and there are nearly infinite ways to the change their appearance, and personalities. There are multiple difficulty levels, and grandpa can even teach you to play crib. This is a very solid enjoyable app, with plenty of charm, which makes it a lot more fun than other cribbage games I have tried.

Perfect! Want more like this!

Wonder app! Does exactly what it says on the tin. For a small price you get a clean looking game with no adverts. Highly customizable grandpas teach you to play cribbage and improve your game. There is a tutorial grandpa who teaches you cribbage, then you get to make your own grandpas to play with.I've built three: Grandpa Walton a beginner cribbage player; Grandpa Leonard (who looks just like my own late grandpa). An intermediate player; and grandpa Einstein an expert. You can even give them personality traits, so Grandpa Leonard is silly and tells jokes very like my own grandpa, while I made Grandpa Einstein intelligent and serious and he keeps talking about looking into the abyss or the probability of cribbage hands. The only flaw is the algorithm might slight skew the cards grandpas with different levels of skill get dealt. It is not the only difference, Grandpa Walton definitely plays his hands badly too.Love this game, made me very nostalgic for my grandpa and fun to play against the Einstein-lookalike I created. Would love other versions. I used to play gin rummy and Whist with my grandpa. Would also be fun to play board games like snakes and ladders or chess with grandpa. And don't forget about Grandma!

Adorable and genuine!

I never got to play cribbage with my real Grandpa, but he and my dad used to play Penny-a-point, and my dad taught me. It’s one of my favorite games and it’s hard to find people to play with! Cribbage with Grandpas satisfies all my cribbage playing desires! And it’s almost like playing with my real grandpa since I can customize a grandpa to look however I want, and choose his personality traits! Gameplay is lovely, you have to score your own cards each hand, and peg smartly or Grandpa will win! He’s nice enough to point out when you may have missed points in a hand, but he lets you figure out what you’ve missed on your own. My new favorite app by far! ❤️

Grandpa looks down at his cards while thinking, then back up at you when talking. He falls asleep when you take too long to play. He makes little rhymes while counting his crib. He brings the game to life in ways a username on a background never could.
