Nice start but ...

Very nice start with this app. Able to connect to an A7RII and A9 from iPhone XS and also from an iPad. The app controls current camera functions allowed from app. Did not notice any lag in changing camera settings via the app. The Sony body recognizes the changes immediately. Was able to capture test photos using app. Connection to A9 much more straight forward than A7RII. Did not lose connection to either camera during use of app. Currently tap to focus does not work for neither of my Sony bodies if it is developed into current version of app. Also IAP purchasing does not work. Tried countless times to use IAP purchasing to support further development efforts however it currently does not load. Unable to use options available via IAP.Again very nice start on the app and look forward to seeing future updates!

cam tote app

I was looking for a mechanical shutter release so I can take birding pics with big zoom lens on tripod without wobble. I accidentally found this app which will do the same thing and more wirelessly from my iPhone SE gen 2. Does everything it says, connected easily, can adjust all the camera settings I routinely use, I really like it. I downloaded the free version but this is so well done. I think I’ll pay so the developer gets reimbursed for the hard and smart programming. I have both a Sony A7iii and Sony A6300. Worked for both.

I wanted this too work

I use my Sony a9 mounted on a long pole and when I am doing this I cannot access the camera. I hoped the solution was to use this app to view my composition and control the shutter. During a 2 hour event I had numerous “lost connection” occurrences and most importantly I was unable to control my a9. There was always lag from when I repositioned my a9 to when I would see the composition on my iPhone 12 Pro screen which made it difficult to use. I had to use a Bluetooth camera remote to trigger the shutter and this app to view the composition because I could not reliably trigger the shutter through this app. I was not able to adjust exposure settings with this app and I could not view the photographs I had taken on my iPhone 12 Pro. In the end I was able to get the shots I wanted but this app did not work nearly as well as I hoped! Overall, for a free app it’s usable, but with very heavy limitations. Is there a more reliable app?

Worked, once

The app works immediately with my Sony Alpha camera, and then stops allowing you to transfer images or to operate the shutter, leaving one to peruse the purchased app in frustration. The Camrote developer publishes in-app that *his* gear is comprised of an iPhone 8 and a Sony a7ii, because he’s suggesting donations, over the cost of basic in-app feature unlock purchase. I donated, and only unlocked the ability to change the app icon. The developer’s Twitter support is curt: they simply request the model & version of your camera, and then no more attention once it is provided, leaving little doubt that the details of (entry level) gear, which is similar to “his” purported setup, was sufficient explanation!

Great and easy to connect

I recently bought a different app but it just stopped working so I decided to give this one a try. I have not used this to transfer photos to my phone since thats not why I got it but its easy to connect to my sony a7ii. I tried connecting using my mobile hot spot which it kept saying it couldn't(may have more to do with the camera or hotspot than the app) but it did recognize my camera and gave the option to connect to it. Tried that and hasn't given me an issue since. It seems to be a simple app with multiple upgrade options. So far its great!

Take notes, Sony

I have an A7R3 with limited Timelapse functionality built-in. At best 60 second intervals, which is not great for long formats such as documenting the growth of a plant. I’ve tried Sony's mobile app but it only does simple remote commands and settings. Their desktop app is okay, but I don’t have a way to keep the camera charged while it’s plugged in to the computer. This app, apparently made by a single dev, has the Timelapse function I need (albeit behind a $3 purchase) And that’s actually fine. The function works well and I can keep my camera powered by a usb c brick. I have a spare iPhone SE (2016?) running it without any issues. Sony needs to take notes on this one. My only complaint is that the live feed periodically stops working after a long time but the camera is still capturing at the 30 minute intervals. So not a major issue.

Works with a6000

!UPDATE! After more than a month Camrote is even better than my first impression. Super coolness to have various Grid overlays and near total control over manual settings. Developers suggest updating your Sony on camera remote app and I agree. I’ll buy you Coffee as long as it is Free Range Organic!I thought I’d try this. Impressed right out of the box. Of course it didn’t come in a box. That’s just an allegory. But I could see the image and use the most important camera controls on my PiPhone. And it was very smooth. Slight delay in triggering shutter. Hey you should carefully frame your shot anyway, eh? I know this will be excellent for some video work I want to do. Thank you!

It works! Thanks to the developer for creating this.

Using this w/ Sony a6000 to a) transfer pics to a smartphone, and b) control many camera functions remotely. Took a little time to realize the wifi connection process is different for each function. To transfer: go to “send to smartphone” in the wireless menu on the camera. Then connect from Camrote. To control remotely: go to the Application list in the application menu on the camera and open ‘smart remote embedded’ in the application list.

The photos on phone and camera look different?

I found out that the photos I took using this app looked differently on my phone screen and on the camera. The image looks perfectly good then when I check it on the camera after closing the app, it looks like it was automatically edited (very badly) ! I'm not sure what the problem is. But it did make the focusing on myself super easier when I don't have anyone assisting me.Edit: I found out the photos look fine when I checked on my pc... this is very weird, but I changed the rating cuz of that !

Life saver

Image edge now is completely a piece of trash..thanks for developing a substitute for Sony’s should-go-to-garbage-immediately app and I do have found changes from update to update. There are still two small issues, one is it seems to be a limit of 50 photos for each transfer, especially when I select “all image on this date” on the camera, only up to 50 could be sent to my phone; another one is that it would help a lot if photos can be transferred without losing their orders in the camera. Anyway, big thanks.
