I’m a very happy new customer. Having used Citibike in the early days when it first launched in NYC, and now moving to Montreal and stepping back into bike sharing years later - wow! So much easier and just all round awesome.
Some of the E bikes are locked and some of them don’t operate too well. I’m an experienced Ebike rider/Commuter, 4000 miles a year, visiting from the states. Also the seat posts are sometimes too loose and can’t be adjusted by hand easily shouldHave that corrected.
We used BIXI the entire time while in Montréal (2 weeks) a part from a hidden $200 fee hold on my card which was later sorted out it was really great to use the bikes. If only Montréal had more dedicated bike lanes.
Bixis billing practices are quite dodgy and make you end up spending much more than expected. It’s easy to signup for BIXI unlimited but almost impossible to cancel you have to do it from the website, not the app and they make it confusing, the electric bikes are very expensive and not included in BIXI membership, and most important of all be careful to make sure the bixis properly dock as the docks are finicky or you’ll continue to be charged for hours and hours, I ended up spending nearly $50usd just for a few short rides would have been way better off just renting a bike from the hotel. The rides also bill you after 45 minutes. It’s easy to end yo spending much more then you expected you have to make sure you 1. Cancel on website minute you leave Montreal 2. Make sure all rides are under 45 min and 3. Make absolute sure when you dock your bike you see the little green light, sometimes it “seems” docked but it will actually blink red and keep billing you. Buyer beware
Thanks to Bixi bikes and app, I’ve spent 5 days visiting an ill loved one at the Neurological Institute & Hospital while getting into shape, easing my worried mind and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Membership maybe fair but if you do not have a membership and you use for a one time use you will have 100 dollars taken out of your account for 10 days maybe more depending on your bank. Note they will take 100 dollars every use so if you use 3 times they will take out 100 dollars 3 times. This is not disclosed vividly when downloading and using the app.
Everything is okay except time limits
The bike borrow works well. I only had two issues with it. For some reason you can’t go beyond an half an hr at a time or it changes you 3 dollars every 15 min. So, you have to use it in half hr increments, which makes trips broken up as your looking for bike stations before you reach your destination. On the other hand, they are all around the city.Number two, there are no bike stations at St. Joesph’s. So we almost made the mistake of taking our loaners all the way to St. Joseph’s Oratory. That would have been a big mistake. We forgives the reason for no bikes is because they would have to continuously bring bikes to the top of the Moutain, as St. Joseph’s is up a rathe large hill. Chow for now
The ride was fine, my bike made noises but whatever. I park it AND make sure the light turned green but it didn’t register on my app. I assumed it was fine though and as a first time user I didn’t know any better. They charged me $20 so I called and asked for a refund. They refused so I closed my account. Montreal has amazing metro and lime scooters, so just use those.
Better option than metro if you’re looking to get more cardio into your lifestyle 😁
Official mobile application for Montreal metropolitan area’s bike share system. It allows users to purchase one-way passes and memberships and to rent a bike. A map of the stations shows, in real time, the number of bikes and docking points available at each station so you can plan your routes.
