User Reviews for AirMeasure - AR Tape & Ruler

It ain’t here yet...

AR may be the next big thing, but it hasn’t made it into the pro ranks just yet. If this app could do just one of the many tasks that claims to be able to do accurately it would be worth it. It cannot do any accurately. AR is not an accurate way of measuring, yet.I’m as disappointed to have to write this review, as you are reading it. I wish this App worked, but there is just no way you can use a tape measure that is off by several inches when measuring something only a couple feet long. This app, and all the AR measuring apps, measure things as well as Zoltar predicts the future.

Concept and UI are great but results are inconsistent

The base app is incredibly well done, and great UI and UX sensibilities. The add-ones are a bit complex and don’t seem to be functionally intuitive (eg measuring sq footage). Unfortunately the measurements themselves are incredibly variable in accuracy. Out a series of 10 measurements, 3-4 are within 2 inches of correctness, another 3 within 5 or so inches, and the rest unusable. I hope that with the new ARkit in iOS 12, the accuracy will improve markedly, and this app will be one of the best measuring tools going.

Best app!!!

Best app ever. I am totally clueless when it comes to any kind of measuring, I don’t own a measuring tape..not even a ruler. So as one can imagine when I needed to measure stuff, I was in trouble!! I went looking online and found recommendations for this app, thank god because it’s amazing. There’s nothing I’ve come across that it can’t do and ITS SO EASY!!! It makes it all so so easy! It keeps the history for things too which has helped me tremendously at times where I needed the measurements or the photo of the item measured as I have an online store and was so bummed that I didn’t take a photo of the measurements! Well, came back onto the app just to check and hope, what do you know!? History! Of all I’ve measured so I could get the photos I needed as my items are stored else where this has saved me a few times!! Awesome app! I recommend it 110%!

Great for students!

It is an AR measuring toolkit that contains a variety of modes to accurately create measurements. This app is a great tool for the classroom for individual or collaborative activities when learning geometry, interior design, sewing, carpentry, and other ways an educator or anyone else sees fit. I measured a couple of objects and then used a tape measure to test for accuracy. The app was pretty accurate. There are modes that offer short tutorial videos where you can watch demonstrations. The vertical height mode allows the user to measure tall buildings and trees as well as others. Younger students would enjoy using this in school as a fun assignment to find the tallest tree or building on campus.

Not accurate and hard to use

Nice interface but quirky and hard to use with unreliable and inaccurate measurements. Repeatedly scanning the same object dimension will yield different measurements each time. Trying to measure a long dimension in segments is particularly difficult; sometimes the app picks up at the desired spot and continues, other times it refuses and wants to “triangulate” instead. The interface also randomly switches a virtual tape measure on and off. It’s a great idea that would have serious utility and value IF it worked. But this version is not ready for prime time and definitely not worth the price. Save your 99 cents.

Great tool in your purse.

Very easy to use. I didn’t net to read the tectorial‘s or watch the videos. Now that I have it I use it all the time whenever I’m out shopping. I never realized how much I needed this app. And plus it is like I said so easy do you I’ve tried others and they were way too complicated. If you’re hesitating yo ahead and download it. I even donate it because it was so good.

Great Look, Doesn’t Really Measure Up

I’ve tried this App since the first version and I’ve had mixed results. While I like a lot about the design, usability is still too complex to understand. Accuracy seems questionable in most cases. For instance, I was testing the “measure a human” function, and my 5’1” subject was consistently measured below his height. The App would say, “Point to the Floor” and I would, then no further direction. So I would move the phone up and it would detect a face. Intuitively, once it detects the face you would think that’s the measurement. Not only was it inconsistent, but I was getting measurements of 3’9”, 4’6”, and others below 5’. I was in a well lit space with plenty of contrast. Other features, like hanging a picture on the wall, never worked for me. Detecting a plane (the wall) seemed challenging for the App, so it never really saw the wall. All the different modes are cool. Some are easy to understand and some are impossible to comprehend because the interface doesn’t give you feedback about what it’s doing. Many of the modes seem redundant as far as function, but they have completely different methods of getting to the function. I’m not sure what the purpose of one measurement mode is over another in a lot of cases. All in all I think the App has promise, but it’s no replacement for a quality laser measurement tool or a good ol’ tape measure. Until it’s somewhat accurate, I see no point using it.

Really nice app! Could add cm

I’ve really liked the app, of course it’s not a perfect measurement, the app adverts it the moment you open (Guessing you read the instructions).Could add some stability improvement & please add a “metric system” option... In my country we don’t actually use the imperial system.. Would totally love it.Apart from that, it’s quite handy when you just need some references, or simply have fun =)

Great look, poor performance

Gave it 2 stars because it is a really slick looking app. Unfortunately, it is difficult to use and does not work very well so performance is less than 2 stars. I got a lot of different measurements when trying to simply measure the length of my desk and, as a result, I could never rely on this measuring app. I would always be questioning whether the result I got from the app was accurate or not - and I am not talking about fractions of an inch, I am talking about errors of over a foot. Maybe my technique is poor, but the tutorial videos are too simplistic and they did not help me to perfect my technique so as to get consistent results. I hope Apple does a better job with their upcoming iOS 12 measuring app because it would be a great tool if it worked and could be relied upon.

Seems Buggy, Hard to Use, and Inaccurate

A friend of mine is doing a beta test of the next iOS and it has a function like this. I loved the idea so I bought this app. It is so much harder to use than his. Some tomes I’ll lock on Ronan edge and the tape measure will just start running out, or the end will become “unanchored”, or the readings are simply off...even when I make the adjustments as shown in the tutorial. I wish I would have awaited for the next iOS update.
